Wrexham entrepreneur Paul Archer, a former firefighter, has applied to patent the invention that he claims turns old car tyres into good quality diesel oil.
Paul came up with the idea back in the early 1990s and he and his business partners have formed a company – UTD Research Ltd – and built a working prototype that is now set to process up to two million old tyres a year at the company’s first UK plant near Wrexham.
UTD Research processes waste tyres and tyre shred into useful commodities of carbon black, oil and steel. In addition to providing a sustainable and reliable disposal route for waste tyres, the company also manufactures a financially attractive opportunity to reduce their environmental impact by recycled finite materials.

Planning chiefs are expected to give the go ahead for a new wedding venue in Wrexham despite concern from councillors. Situated on the edge of Wrexham Industrial Estate, the venue has submitted plans for a 120 seat function room, dance area, guest suite and car park. The application will go before Wrexham Council’s planning committee on 7th April.
The application is by Mr and Mrs B. Piggott of Hugmore House on Hugmore Lane, a busy road leading to and from the industrial estate. Holt Community Council expressed concern about possible nuisance to nearby residents from functions and objected to any additional building. They were also concerned on highway grounds because the venue is on a busy road.
