Celebrate St David’s Day in Wrexham

Wrexham will be marking this year’s St David’s Day with a host of activities in the town centre over the weekend of February 28th and March 1st.

On the Saturday a market of over 40+ stalls will be held on Queens Square and will feature a wide choice of products being sold by companies based in Wales. Items on sale will range from cakes to olives to Welsh souvenirs to quality fresh meat. There will also be cheeses, crafts, chocolates, jewellery, fairy doors and clothing from famous Welsh supplier Cowbois.

There will also be face-painting and fairground rides for children and free tasters of Leek soup and bara brith for everyone to try. Anyone turning up in Welsh costume on the day will also be able to claim a free gift. Read more…

Public invited to give views on Glyn Valley Tramway plans

The Glyn Valley Tramway Trust is to bring members of the public up to speed on its plans to revive a historic transport link – and create a steam experience in Chirk and the Ceiriog Valley.

Two meetings, organised by the Glyn Valley Tramway Trust, will be held this month at which residents of Chirk, Glyn Ceiriog and the Ceiriog Valley, and other interested parties, will be invited to give their views on the future interpretation, conservation and development of the former Glyn Valley Tramway. Wrexham people urged to have their say on Welsh Language legislation

Wrexham’s Assembly Member is calling on local people to have their say on a proposal by the Welsh Assembly Government, to have the right to legislate on the Welsh language.

Lesley Griffiths AM, is inviting Wrexham people to make their voices heard on the principle of drawing down powers, from Westminster, to allow the Assembly to introduce laws on the future of our language. Read more…

Government must take action to prevent more Post Office closures

Small businesses cannot afford any further Post Office closures, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) warned, ahead of a Government announcement on the future of Royal Mail on Thursday (February26).

In a survey of 5,300 members of the FSB, 80 per cent said they depend on Post Offices to send their mail and for other business transactions, while 47 per cent said they visit the Post Office a couple of times a week. Small businesses rely on an efficient network to run their business – and with 2,500 Post Offices already having closed over the last year and a half, further closures could have a serious impact on their business. AM calls for ‘Youth Mayor for Wrexham’

Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, is calling on Wrexham Council to follow the example of other Boroughs in Wales, by enabling young people in the area to have their own democratically elected Youth Mayor.

The AM is challenging the Council to emulate other Welsh Boroughs, such as Bridgend and Blaenau Gwent, in facilitating a process which would enable young people in Wrexham to hold elections to elect a Youth Mayor.

Ms. Griffiths wants the Council to explore the concept, adopted by other areas, of having a Youth Mayor that would be elected to represent the views of young people and to have a direct say in how services for children and young people are delivered in Wrexham County Borough. Read more…
