Newsletters – for existing businesses and an ideal home business opportuntity

May 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Most business people realise that creating a monthly newsletter and distributing it to valued clients is a very inexpensive and powerful marketing tool for their business. However, very few companies and salespeople use newsletters, and those who do often struggle to get the newsletter out on time, if at all. Many business owners simply don’t have the skills, equipment or time to create an effective newsletter. This is where Jane’s Office comes in – they can design a quality publication which will then be emailed to you in Pdf form which you can then easily print off or email to customers. Click here for a sample of one of our newsletters.

You could even work with other local businesses to create a guide of local services specific to your niche – for example if you sell plants link up with a company that sells garden ornaments or craft items relating to gardening.

It is very cheap nowadays to buy quality stationary from the likes of Tesco, Amazon, and Staples, and many low cost home printers can produce quality documents. So if you need just a few documents that you can print off as and when you need them it is ideal to print your own. If you need larger quantities, companies like Prontaprint offer very competitive pricing that smaller printers/designers just can’t compete with. The design cost of a large company like Prontaprint are very expensive though and you will find that a smaller design company like Jane’s Office will provide you with a more personal service at a lower cost. The documents are then sent to you as a Pdf that you can either print yourself or email off to the printing company. Or, you can simply email the newsletter to customers or add it to you website for customers to download (see www.coed-y-glyn.com for an example).

Some examples of ideal business newsletters:

• A craft shop offering a monthly ‘Craft News’ newsletter letting customers know techniques using craft items that they have on sale and giving news of their latest craft workshops.

• A photographer offering ideas for personalised gifts and advice on how to make special events even more special.

• A business selling printer inks offering advice on printing techniques and the best printers to buy.

• A hotel offering visitors information on the best places to visit locally.

• A garden centre offering gardening tips and recommending their ‘Plant of the Month’.

The list is endless! All businesses have some news that they can share with their customers. You can offer your newsletter for download on social networking sites such as Twitter (order your newsletter from Jane’s Office and we will do this for you for free), on your website, you can print off copies to give to customers or leave in strategic positions such as banks or cafes (ask first!). Compare this cost with traditional advertising and you will find it far more cost effective especially as you can taret your audience more appropriately.

Example:
An 8 page A5 newsletter costs £50 for your news to be put into the newsletter format and converted to a Pdf document. Have 300 B&W copies printed on quality paper folded and stapled for approx £95 from a printing service such as Prontaprint. Obviously the larger the quantity the lower the price. Having the newsletter printed in colour pushes the price up so consider whether this is necessary.
An A4 newsletter printed on both sides is another cost effective option. Many local firms offer photocopying services which would enable you to produce these newsletters at very little cost. You could even sell some advertising in your newsletter to cover your printing costs and get your newsletter free!

Ideal Business OpportunityLocal newsletters are very popular and there are lots of companies around who will charge you a fortune for compiling a newsletter or convincing you that you need to take out a franchise. Not so! All you need to do is collect the news stories (local people are usually very keen to contribute once they know what you are doing), approach local businesses to advertise, and once you have enough information send it off to Jane’s Office for compiling into newsletter format. The resulting Pdf is a quality document and you can decide on the quality of the paper and whether you want colour or black and white newsletters. You can start off small by covering just a small area to start, then gradually expand as you get more advertisers on board. You should be able to cover your costs and make a profit very quickly. Combine it with a website to give a really professional image and somewhere for you to make the newsletter available for download. See www.coed-y-glyn.com for an example of a local newsletter and website. For more information visit www.janesoffice.co.uk or email jane@janeoffice.co.uk.
