An Audience with Adventurer Alistair Humphreys 11th March. Aged 24, Alastair Humphreys left the UK to cycle round the world. His journey along the length of the Earth’s three great landmasses (Africa, the Americas, Eurasia) took more than 4 years to complete. The self-funded solo ride was a truly global journey succeeding through the kindness of strangers and enormous determination. Sir Ranulph Fiennes called it “the first great adventure of the new Millennium.” During the evening Alastair will bring his inspirational adventure alive with a series of photographs from his travels. Legends of Darts Evening 25th March The Legends of Darts: Eric Bristow and John Lowe will be appearing at the Brymbo Sports and Social Complex on the 25th of March 2010, the show will be in support of the charity “Get Kids Going”. “Get Kids Going” is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people – up to the age of 26 years – the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. They help promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc. Get Kids Going ! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with their sports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions. Come and enjoy a great night with Eric and John, the Legends show’s are very successful, this one will be extra so, the night will start with the semi-final, and finals of the “Get Kids Going” darts knockout, the Legends will then toe the Oche at 8pm, Paul Wilson will be the host and presenter for the show, and you will be provided with the best stage setting, complete with projector screen to enable you to see every arrow thrown. You will be able to purchase tickets for the draw, to see who will play Eric and John in the fun part of the show, and you will experience the re-match of their many world finals. There will be fund raising on the night, and John Lowe has donated one of his very rare collectors items for the auction, a genuine framed poster from the Muhammad Ali v Ken Norton World Heavyweight Championship fight at the Yankee Stadium New York, the poster is signed by Ken Norton. Duck Race and Dog Show We are delighted to annouce that the duck race/dog show will be taking place again this year. Please book your hotels/train tickets for the 15th of May 2010 at Nant Mill, Coedpoeth, Wrexham.
All members and rescues are welcome, as usual, if rescues would like to hold their own stalls please let us know as the site isn’t huge so it will have to be on a first come first served basis if we start running out of space.
Last year we held a dog show, a duck race and a bbq. We also had a number of stalls including a craft stall, brick a brack and an animal stall. We had guess the number of sweets in the jar, name the teddy and a childrens treasure hunt. Free walk from Alyn Waters Country Park Visitor Centre – Join Roger every Tuesday at 10.15am at the Alyn Waters Country Park for a free walk lasting up to 90 minutes. The walk is suitable for good walkers able to walk 3-4 miles over varied terrain. Call Natalie at Walkabout Wrexham on 757524.
Weekly Outdoor Tai Chi – The aim of this project is to increase physical activity levels, making best use of the natural outdoor environment close to where people live. The Parish Church of St Giles is the greatest mediaeval Parish Church in Wales is still in use for the purposes for which it was built, more than 500 years ago. It is heated, lit and open daily from 10am-4pm for visitors and private prayer. We would ask that Group and School visits are by prior appointment please. In addition, Tower Tours are available every week on Thursdays and Saturdays at 1230pm , weather permitting, also children must be accompanied by an adult.
